I have a feeling this isn’t going to be my only post ever on coffee filter fun! Coffee filters offer endless opportunities for creativity and color. You can fold them, color them, cut them, dye them, crinkle them, use them as a last resort tissue… you get the idea. They are so inexpensive and easily accessible which is what we are all about – easy and affordable fun.
So, let’s get to it. I’m going to show you (check out the photos above) how to make a coffee filter butterfly that will be a hit at your next birthday party get together. You could either have this project randomly incorporated into your party or include it in an overall theme (e.g. rainforest theme, insect theme, animal theme, flying theme, etc.).
What you will need:
- Coffee filters
- Clothes pins
- Markers, crayons, paint (whatever you would like to color with)
Start by passing out coffee filters to each child. The more filters, the merrier the children will be! Put all the coloring utensils in the middle of the coloring surface so every child has a chance to use every color. Encourage kids to fill up their entire coffee filter to make it extra beautiful! Once the filters are colored, show the children how to gather the butterfly in the middle and pin it with a clothespin (they may need help they’re first time). Now, decorate the face and the body of the clothespin and voila! A beautiful butterfly appears!
Create a space where all the kids can showcase their creations. Show them that every butterfly is unique and special in their own way, much like the creators š What a fun activity to participate in and share with your friends. Don’t forget – you can participate too. Coloring can be the best stress reliever after planning a party. You’ve worked hard and deserve a little crayon action yourself!
